Shania Twain From This Moment On

By Shania Twain

“ Let’s go girls . . . “

Fans of the Timmins Ontario native should love “From This Moment On”. There isn’t too much more to say. If you are a fan of Ms. Twain’s music grab this as soon as you see it. You should have a blast.

But the book does have issues and they begin with the idea that Shania wrote this herself. If she did, well sorry but it’s not very well written. It could have been much more potent as an authorized biography. It might have been better with a co-writer. It might have been better with a more forceful editor.

It all boils down to one thing: Shania Twain really should not have actually written a book by herself. Being able to write, record, and perform music does not necessarily mean you can write prose. So no Ms. Twain should not have been allowed at a keyboard by herself.

Now, as I said all the way back at the beginning, fans of Shania Twain should have a good time with “From This Moment On”. It contains everything Shania fans could hope for and if you can live with how it’s written then you’re good to go.

Ms. Twain goes into depth about her time in and around Timmins. Fans should like some of the depth of her survival stories and she does have survival stories. Stories of chopping wood in the winter and the like.

Most fans are aware of her time in Timmins and she was always proud of her relationship with the city. That love can be seen throughout the book.

Somewhere on the Twain train to Timmins Shania found a band or they found her. FLIRT was a good name for a bar band but not so much for a professional recording act. So fortunately for Shania, there was a limit to that band and they reached the end.

People like pictures in their autobiographies and “From This Moment On” does indeed have pictures. Only the first half seems like Shania personally chose them. Most of them featured her while she was a kid. Those are fine. There’s not much more to say. They were fine and if they came from Twain’s personal collection then sure, they’re fine.

The second half of the pictures seem like they were picked out by some lonely unpaid intern late one night after cramming for her next exam at university. For the most part, they are publicity-type photographs. There’s nothing too special on offer but fans should love them.

That’s the entire thing about the book. Fans will just love this. It really is that simple. Fans, more than any other group, will accept the rambling. I think Shania Twain fans will accept much more, umm, nonsensical rambling and be happy with it.

Had Shania Twain really wanted a biography of note, of merit, or even just plain good she should have parked her ego at the door and allowed a ghostwriter to come in and save this story. Shania certainly has a rags-to-riches story that more people should be aware of and that starts with proper writing.

Shania Twain fans should love “From This Moment On”. I wasn’t a fan of the writing and frankly, I wasn’t a fan of the personal Shania Twain after reading the book. The way she treated her first husband was not great. However . . .

When all is said and done I end up repeating myself. Fans should simply love “From This Moment On” by Shania Twain.

And the best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to read a  little book! Oh ok, men can read too.
